Tiles and Troops
A downloadable game for Windows
Tiles and Troops is a top-down RTS (prototype of a) game. It is also my very first public project.
I was experimenting with the idea of control in RTS games, and decided to make this program to test some features. I fully intend to develop this into a full game one day.
The game features a tile-based map where you can spawn enemy waves and buy troops to fight. You can also construct your own tiles over existing ones to give your troops the environmental edge. All tiles affect all troops that are on them, in one way or another.
You can select and move troops, and target enemies, but the battle, itself is done by your units. Every unit spawns with its own stats that affect their speed, accuracy, action speed, health, damage.
The idea of the game is to give the player the ability to control most aspects of an engagement, but not the fighting itself.
Read the description in the prototype.
Also read the Devlogs to see the new changes. Please and thank you!
I have put this prototype "out there" to get feedback, please email me what you think at the.outside.man.ge@gmail.com

havent played in awhile, but im just here to say again that i love this game
oh and, i found a pretty good defense layout
ima see how far i can get, hopefully wave 100? gonna take awhile
oh and, Valentine, are you gonna make any new games anytime soon? :3
internet stopped working so i couldnt send my message earlier
but anyways
got to wave 55 befor getting bored and just stopping since the waves dont really get harder for some reason
well, they sent better tanks sometimes
but the total number of enemies didnt really get high
the number of infantry plumeted after awhile, just mostly being armored stuff but they arent a problem for my defences
and also look at this, no man's land lmao
maybe playing sandbox would be more fun, ill go do that later
Haven't been active with my creator stuff in a while, but let me tell you, this comment means more to me than any commendation I have achieved in my day job in the last 7 years.
Also yes, not in this genre, but I have been mauling over some (3-4) ideas for a while and want to get (at least) one of them out of my system, one that I am passionate about and seems enclosed enough in scale. Been taking notes in my trusty checkered pocket notebook. I'll let you know when I have something concrete to show. :D
Nice game dude! The only complaint I have are that I can't see the prices of the units and buildings, oh and also can you add an option to change the size of the game window? Cuz for me it's too big and the taskbar is almost completely blocking the OP Commands and the vehicles tab.
Oh and if any other players are reading this and find this game a bit difficult, just spam machine gunners and a small amount of rifle men on a tower
Noted all, once core mechanics are settled, will add options for game window and such. Thank you very much for the feedback.
anyways i tried out the tankettes out today, i got no complaints for it, it can be used to distract enemy units so they shoot at the tankettes instead of my units, oh and also i got an error, i was spamming rocket launchers near the top of the map and a few of them went out of the map and then i got this error message:
Thank you! Figured it out, fixing it ASAP.
wacky game old sport! the game was a little bit frustrating in some regards, especially when my soldiers would ignore my trenches and bunkers, opting instead to stand out in the open. I would have preferred more control over where my soldiers stood. Additionally, the wave system was interesting, not exactly bad but not exactly good. I could take it at my own pace, but I would be starved for cash as well as it taking a long time. or I could mash the wave button and die. It was good because it let me take things at my own pace, but the enemies walking across the empty land could take for ever. I lost when I ran out of troop money when my fortifications were overwhelmed. All in all, not bad, I really would have liked if I coukld place units in my fortifications and learn what the price for troops and buildings were
Thank you for the feedback. You actually can individually select troops and position them, you can also select their target (which Im thinking of removing). I actually thought that the wave button would be bothering some, but you gave me an interesting perspective on pacing.
